Friends of Windmill Gardens (FoWG)
Do you know… there is a windmill on your doorstep?! It is almost 200 years old and is open to visitors during the summer months. Also known as Ashby Mill, Brixton Windmill is located in Windmill Gardens, “… a haven of peace! You’d never guess you’re only yards away from the A23” says a young mother watching her children in the playground, just beside the Brixton Mural, newly painted by the Windmill Gardens is the small and beautiful green space, that hosts Brixton’s historic windmill.
And the Parks Group makes sure to maintain the park for all to enjoy. Planned activities include: planting wheat and spring bulbs, preparing the wild meadow flower area for seeding, and weeding the medicinal herbs and that’s only in the next few weeks. Interested?
Can you spare a few moments for Windmill Gardens?
Do you enjoy working with people? Want to be trained as a guide? Are you an amateur baker? A story teller? Do you like singing? DIY-ing? Got computer skills?
Who can tell how far your hobby can take you? So if you’re looking for a way of escaping your TV and computer games or even another way of putting Brixton on the map, try volunteering with FoWG.
In 2016, Brixton Windmill will be 200 years old… and it needs you. Hope to see you there!
