Blenheim Garden RMO are delighted to let you know that our application to the Tesco Community Grants Scheme has been successful and that our project will be put forward to a customer vote in Tesco stores.

We’re hoping to secure the grant to help providing food, education and challenging activities for the adults of tomorrow and today. The project with the highest number of votes will be granted £1,500.00!

Voting will commence in store from first week of October 2022 and continue until Mid-January 2023.

To vote, you will need to make a purchase within store of any value. You will receive one token per transaction and it’s not necessary to purchase a carrier bag in order to receive a token.

Brixton Windmill are about to develop their business plan to take us through to 2025 and need to hear from you! They would therefore like to invite all volunteers, members and supporters to attend one of two engagement events – along with Brixton Windmill Trustees –  in August. At each event you will get the opportunity to hear about current priorities, and feed in your thoughts and ideas about how these can be built on and extended for the next 3 years to support the aims and values of the Charity.

Please see details of the two sessions below. One will run virtually and one will run in-person, however the two events are the same – so please select whichever one suits best!

Buses are the backbone of our transport network – they are lifelines for our communities and are critically important to reducing car use, congestion, road danger and pollution. But some of our bus routes are now under threat because of the impact of the pandemic and government funding restrictions on Transport for London’s budget.

With no agreed long-term funding plan between TfL and the UK government, local routes face being cut or reduced which could have a really significant impact on parts of our borough and on the residents who rely on them.

Lambeth council is working with local residents and community groups to respond to the TfL consultation around the need to protect services that are relied upon by residents on low-incomes and who live in areas with poor connections. I encourage everyone to click the following link and take a few minutes to fill in the Central London Bus Review consultation before it closes on 7 August.

On Thursday 1^st June and Friday 2^nd June 2022, the Blenheim Gardens RMO office will be closed for the celebrations of the Queens Jubilee.

During this period, our repairs and maintenance service will be covered by Marco of MGS Gas and Heating.  This service will operate from 8:30 AM until 4.30 PM for emergency repairs only.  Emergency repairs include an uncontrollable leak, a blockage, or full loss of power.

After 4.30 pm and for an out of hours emergency repair, please telephone TW Drainage on 0800 121 6122 who are available until 9 am on Monday 5^th June when the RMO estate office re-opens.

If you have any gas related repairs, please telephone Smith and Byford directly on 0208 722 3425 who provide a 24/7 service.  You do not have to wait until the RMO office is open.

A new partnership between TikTok and social business Catch22, is set to help thousands of young people, currently not in education, employment or training (NEET), find work in the creative and digital industries. The multimillion pound programme will see more than 2,500 young people who are NEET engaged on the programme by the end of 2024.

Participants on the programme must be aged between 16-24 and be NEET. They will have access to:

– A 3-4 week employability course and guidance through technical qualifications and achieving accreditation, as well as online courses.

– A career coach who will guide each participant to identify their goals and complete a bespoke action plan to reach them; TikTok employees will provide advice and coaching at peer-led workshops

– Access to opportunities to further build their industry specific skills such as virtual work experience, jobs fairs, mentoring and networking events.- Wider support on mental health or housing issues.

– Access to a bursary which will support participants as they go through the programme, as well as a laptop loan scheme, developed to tackle digital exclusion.

Brixton Windmill’s Beer & Bread Festival back after two years’ absence Bank Holiday Monday 2nd May 1-5pm in Windmill Gardens   There have been so many gaps and absences in the last years. But one of the most notable must be the Beer & Bread Festival, a May highlight for Brixton. This year our annual celebration of local craft breweries and artisan bakeries promises to be better than ever. Our festival is organised in partnership with Brixton Brewery who are joined by the Canopy Beer Co., London Beer Lab and Bullfinch Brewery. Artisan bakeries are represented by BreadBread,  Moji Coker and more. We are also grateful for the support of Brixton’s Business Improvement District who are providing stewards for the event. After two years of pandemic lockdown, local Morris Dancers, the Tatterjacks, will once again welcome in the month of May in traditional style. Live music from the festival stage comes from local bands Casino Moon, 3HIRD EYE, and Los Domingos will once again get the audience up on their feet dancing to their salsa vibes. Performing for the first time at a Windmill event are all-girl capella singers the Electric Belles. Throughout the afternoon there will be creative craft fun for children with KidsKreate as well as organised games in the family and children’s area. At the Windmill our  volunteer millers will be showing visitors how they mill Brixton’s renowned wholemeal flour. Hot Indian street food can be bought from Gully’s van and the Brixton Windmill Centre pop-up café will be selling hot and cold drinks as well as ice cream and snacks. Ashby’s grocery store stall will be stocked with seasonal fresh fruit, Brixton honey and and other local produce. Our own Brixton Windmill shop will be open selling a wide range of colourful and beautifully-designed windmill products. Make sure you’ve put the event in your diary – Brixton Windmill Beer & Bread Festival, Bank Holiday Monday, May 2nd 1-5pm – it’s going to be a great afternoon so spread the word!

Blenheim Garden RMO have been informed that Lambeth tree section will be undertaking various works in the Glanville Road area on Wednesday 30^th and Thursday 31^st March 22.

We will be putting flyers on vehicles, notifying them the day prior if they are to be removed from the bay.

Any vehicle that obstructs the working area by not moving will be relocated and may be ticketed.

Blenheim Gardens RMO is helping to promote a drop in clinic at the Windmill Centre starting on Monday 14^th March.

The health hub clinic will run each week, on Monday initially for a month and is aimed at 11 to 20 year olds who can drop in, see and speak with a Health and Wellbeing Practitioner who works with The Well Centre, which is based at Herne Hill Group Practice and works closely with the local GP practice on Brixton Hill.

The consultation revealed the desire for:

• Trampoline
• Shaded seating
• Climbing wall
• Double slide

Most of the schemes cover these issues.

Lambeth Low Traffic Neighbourhood team is undertaking a few “walk and talk” sessions this month to get residents feedback on the Brixton Hill area which includes our estate.

As you may be aware the RMO is canvassing for traffic management measures to be introduced in Lyham Road, SW2 to support the safe crossing of residents, particularly those who are taking/collecting their children to and from the local schools as well as visitors to and from the estate.

This session gives you the opportunity to give your views on how to make the neighbourhood safer and also support the RMO dealing with traffic management issues that surround us.

The first walk and talk sessions will take place from Lambeth Town Hall on Wednesday 26^th January 2022 between 10:00AM and 12:00noon.

The second session will take place on Saturday 29^th of January 2022 between 12:00noon and 2:00PM.

The RMO is canvassing for traffic management measures to be introduced in Lyham Road, SW2 to support the safe crossing of residents, particularly those who are taking/collecting their children to and from the local schools as well as visitors to and from the estate.   We would like to see pedestrian lights or a zebra crossing introduced.

Lambeth Council is now undertaking a Brixton Hill Low Traffic Neighbourhood consultation, which includes gathering evidence about road safety.   

The main route available to fund any crossing or alternative any time soon will be via this project, which we hope will see new measures in place from the summer.

We would appreciate if residents could support the RMO by providing comments on their experience with traffic management on Lyham Road (and in deed the Brixton Hill area).  It will be helpful to both explain the current problems being experienced and what you’d propose to resolve them.
